Richard Burton by Ed Chapman

Commissioned in 2015 by Sally Burton, to mark 90 years since Richard Burton’s birth, Ed Chapman’s mosaic portrait is created using 500 million year old Welsh Slate. Influenced by artists like Chuck Close, Robert Rauschenberg and Jamie Reid, hundreds of fragments are intricately cut and placed by hand to depict the formidable Welsh actor.
