The mural in the Global Lounge at Fulton House is a contemporary homage to Swansea University’s identity, blending Welsh heritage, outstanding natural beauty and the University’s connection with international staff and students from all over the world.

The main scene depicts the Bay Campus clock tower and Singleton Abbey and its magnolia tree, giving a subtle nod to the University’s landscape and award-winning grounds.

Inspired by vintage postcards, the bold lettering is filled with imagery of the iconic Three Cliffs Bay.

At the forefront is a stylised daffodil, Wales’s national flower, reimagined in geometric forms, a style which follows through into the dragons.

Two dragons face each other across the space symbolising unity through mythology and imagery. The Welsh dragon, symbolic of the University’s geographical locations and the Asian dragon – a nod to our generous donor who made the Global Lounge possible.

Between the windows we see patterns inspired by traditional Welsh tapestry, specifically from Melin Tregwynt, which have been reworked into modern abstract forms that flow into the mural’s backdrop.

The colour palette reflects the Global Lounge’s interiors using soft blues, warm pinks, and sunny yellows. Accents of orange and sepia, inspired by the surrounding furniture and upholstery, are also woven in to ensure the mural feels naturally at home in its setting.

This piece is both a celebration of place, belonging and partnership but also a personal story told through colour, shape, and symbolism.
