Untitled by Eduardo Paolozzi
Born in Scotland in 1924, Paolozzi is considered a pioneer of Pop Art. After a long period of study, he travelled to Paris where he became acquainted with and was influenced by contemporary artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Jean Arp and George Braque.
Primarily known as a sculptor, he was interested in working with a variety of materials and his studio was filled with found objects, machine parts, tools, toys and books. He rose to prominence in the 1950’s, as a founder of the Independent Group and taught sculpture and ceramics at several institutions. He was elected a Royal Academician in 1979.
