- Abstract
- A Barry John XV played against a Carwyn James XV at cardiff Arms Park on 26th April 1972 as part of the Urdd Gobaith Cymru (Welsh Youth) 50th anniversary celebrations. Barry John's team won 32 - 28. he scored the first and last tries of the match in what was his last ever senior rugby match. He announced his retirement 9 days later. Mervyn Davies (then of London Welsh and about to join Swansea) played in Barry's team and donated this jersey to Swansea RFC later. Between the two sides there were no less than 22 of the victotious 'Lions' who had toured New Zealand the year before.
