- This Royal Navy Rugby Team jersey was worn by Swansea full-back Haydn Mainwaring when competing for the RN against the British Army on 5th March 1955 at Twickenham in the annual services match. Mainwaring was currently serving as a Royal marine. The RN won the match 8 - 3, Mainwaring kicking a penalty and converting the winning try. The first Navy v Army match had taken place in 1878 (Officers only) and regular matches began annually from 1907 after both services’ Unions were formed. Mainwaring won a senior Welsh cap against France in 1961. He also played club rugby for London Welsh, Harlequins, Dunvant, Newport, Barbarians, Crawshays and the Combined Services.
