Abstract
The motif on this carpet square commemorates the centenary of the formation of the South African Rugby Board in Kimberly in 1889. This was the governing body for 'white' rugby in South Africa until merged with the South African Rugby Union that governed the black and coloured game, in 1992. The new body that exists today took the name of the latter organisation. This momento of the former union was collected by Swansea, Wales and Lions scrum-half Robert Jones, while playing out in South Africa for Western Province in 1994, during the Currie Cup tournament.
