Recorded memoirs of Lee Hutchinson. Comments on returning to work after the 1921 lockout and signing new contracts with a reduction in wages, recalls lack of financial assistance and how his family survived on savings, reflects on the support provided by soup kitchens and the Parish. Also remembers the fine weather, playing cricket during the days and cards in the local institute in the evenings.

Lantern slide. Showing the First Catarct. This photograph was taken by Sgt. Johnson of the 436 Welsh Field Company c. 1917. It formed part of a lecture which he gave. The notes from his lecture read 'Here we have the first cataract. This shows you the water as it leaves the sluices of the barrage. By the way there are 120 sluices to the barrage which is 1 1/4 miles long and 40 feet wide at the base.' This view is similar to EC1789.

Business conditions worsened after 1920 as the post-war mini-boom ended. The trade press responded with promotional material and Frank contributed an upbeat article heralding modern developments and the promise of higher education [21]. W. Gilbertson & Co. Ltd. advertised their full range of products, including some long-established brands which had been manufactured for decades.

The notes from his lecture read 'Here we have the Island of Elephantine which extends for about a mile and a half...One of the most recent finds in recent years was made in 1907. Immediately behind the rest house a chamber was discovered in which were several small stone sarcophagi and on opening they were found to contain the mummies of the sacred rams of Khnum of the Ptolemaic Period....'. This view is similar to EC1750.
