Mervyn Davies wore this jersey when he played in the Barry John XV versus a Carwyn James XV at Cardiff Arms Park on 26th April 1972. The match was to celebrate 50 years of the Urdd Gobaith Cymru (Welsh League of Youth). A stellar line-up included 22 of the victorious 1971 'Lions' between the two teams. Barry John's side won by 32 - 28 in what was his last senior match before retirement. One of those 'Lions', Mervyn Davies was about to make the move from London Welsh back to Swansea RFC.
