Info
-
This is Swansea and Wales centre Claude Davey's jersey from the international against Scotland at Murrayfield on 1st February 1936. Letters replaced numbers on Welsh jerseys for a period in the 1930s. The backs were given 'A' to 'G' corresponding to 15 to 9. Forwards were given 'H' to 'O' corresponding to 1 to 8. Davey was Welsh captain and both teams wore black armbands to mark the death of King George V (20th January). Wales won the match by 13 - 3 and Claude Davey was joined in the Welsh side by Idwal Rees, Haydn Tanner and Eddie Long. Both Tanner and Davey scored tries in the match. Renowned as a ferocious tackler, Davey played 23 times for Wales, captaining the side 8 times.
