Abstract
The Wales team that beat Australia 9 - 6 at Cardiff Arms Park on 12th December 1908 in the first International fixture between the two countries. Seven players represented Swansea in this match - Forwards: Ivor Morgan, Dai Thomas & George Hayward; Wing: Phil Hopkins, Half-Backs Dick Jones and Dicky Owen and Billy Trew in the backs who captained the side. This record was matched in 1910 (v England) and not again till 1992 (v France) and these players were the core of the Swansea side that defeated Australia a fortnight later at St Helens. The Wales scorers were George Travers (Try), Phil Hopkins(Try) and George Winfield(Penalty).
